Itinerary UDINE

UDINE (half-day)

Visit of the city, on the tracks of Tiepolo (frescoes inside the Bishops' Palace, the Oratory of Purity and the cathedral). Walk to Piazza Libertà, the most beautiful Venetian square after Saint Mark's square in Venice, then along Via Mercato Vecchio and the old market square. Visit of the oldest church in the city (Santa Maria di Castello) on the hill of the castle.



CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI (half-day)

Very impotartant centre of Lombards' art. Visit of the Small Lombard Temple and the Christian Museum of the cathedral, with the famous altar of Ratchis and the Baptistery of Callisto, two VIIIth century works. In the morning, it is possible to visit the National Archaeological Museum It is also possible to visit the Celtic Grotto and admire the Natisone River, from the top of the Devil's Bridge.



AQUILEIA (half-day)

Excursion through the ruins of what was the fourth Roman City, at the time of Emperor Augustus. Visit of the National Archaeological Museum, of the magnificent Romanesque basilica, with its IVth century mosaics, and ruins of the Roman river port.



GRADO AND ITS LAGOON (half-day)

Visit of the old town with Basilika Santa Maria delle grazie und Sant'Eufemia. Possible boat excursions in the laguna, to the island of Barbana.



PALMANOVA, VILLA MANIN (half-day)

Visit of the XVIIth century Venetian fortress, of a bastion and military museum. Bus ride along the "Napoleon Road" to Villa Manin of Passariano, summer residence of the last Doge of Venice, one of the most important Venetian villas because of its size. Visit of the chapel, stables and gardens.



SPILIMBERGO AND SAN DANIELE (half-day)

Visit of the old city of Spilimbergo, with its Gothic and Romanesque cathedral (frescoes, pictures, statues), and its medieval houses, followed by a visit of the famous " School of Mosaics ". Excursion to the area where the famous raw ham is produced, with visit of San Daniele (cathedral and church of Sant' Antonio, with frescoes by the XVIth century painter Pellegrino da San Daniele. Possible visit in laboratories where raw ham is processed, with tasting of genuine products.



THE “ VIA DEL PROSCIUTTO E DEI CASTELLI FRIULANI “ (Raw Ham and Castles panoramic Road) (4 h)

Seesighting by bus along the morenic hills to north of Udine, reaching Rive d'Arcano and Villalta. Visit of the most well preserved private Castle. We'll reach San Daniele, wellknown not only as the “Capital of raw ham” but also for the frescoes of the Church of Sant'Antonio.
Possible visit in laboratories where raw ham is processed, with tasting of genuine products.



GEMONA, VENZONE, TOLMEZZO(FD-day)

Excursion in that part of Friuli that was rebuilt after the 1976 earthquake. In Gemona, visit of the Gothic cathedral, which has been restored; in Venzone, visit of the medieval village and church that were completely rebuilt as they used to be centuries ago. We'll continue to Tolmezzo e visit the Museum of Folk-art.
